Are there phrases or words that whenever you hear them take you right to that person? My husband and I have spent the last few days visiting with my husband’s brother, who has terminal brain cancer.

Five days ago, when we first saw him. He seemed alert and happy to see us. As each day passes, he seems more confused and like he is living in less reality. It is heart-wrenching to watch.

However, even on his worst days, he has moments of reality with smiling or laughter. We hang on to those precious moments tighter than ever before.

There is one phrase he repeats that will forever remind me of him and the sound of his voice when he says “That’s a good day” in response to anything positive.

We played three games of Uno with him yesterday. He played surprisingly well. He even teased and accused us of cheating. Even though he “won” all three games.

That was a good day that I will remember forever.
